About us
The Federal Judicial Administration Council (FJAC) is an Ethiopian quasi-judicial body that adjudicates and ensures separation of powers of state and federal courts in the judicial system of Ethiopia. Under Article 55(1) of FDRE Constitution, the FJAC manages federal courts and judges and non-judicial personnels working with federal courts.
The FJAC is composed of the following members:
- The President of the Federal Supreme Court (Chairperson)
- The Chief Justice of the Federal High Court
- The President of the Federal First Instance Court
- The Attorney General of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia
- Two judges of the Federal Supreme Court appointed by the House of Peoples Representatives
- Two lawyers with at least 10 years of experience appointed by the House of Peoples Representatives
The FJAC has the following powers and functions:
- To appoint, promote, transfer, and discipline federal judges
- To approve the budget of the federal courts
- To establish and maintain training programs for federal judges and other judicial personnel
- To investigate complaints of misconduct by federal judges
- To recommend to the House of Peoples Representatives the removal of federal judges from office
