About DRC
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) was established in 1956 as a charitable, non-governmental, and not-for-profit entity. Its humanitarian efforts span across over 35 nations across the globe. The core purpose of DRC is to execute its assigned mission by extending aid to populations grappling with displacement, a category that includes refugees, internally displaced individuals (IDPs), and the communities providing them shelter. Within Ethiopia, DRC is dedicated to assisting refugees and the local populace residing in Tigray, Gambella, Amhara, Afar, and Somali Regions. This endeavor is facilitated by a workforce comprising more than 260 personnel of both national and international origin.
Purpose of the Job
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) aims to fulfill its obligations in Ethiopia in accordance with the country’s established legal framework. In pursuit of this objective, the DRC seeks to establish a collaborative partnership with a qualified legal firm or individual. The purpose of this engagement is to receive comprehensive assistance across a wide spectrum of matters. These include, but are not limited to, assuming day-to-day legal responsibilities, offering extensive legal guidance encompassing analysis, investigation, and document drafting.
The selected legal entity or individual representative will be entrusted with providing essential aid concerning specific legal concerns. This entails advising the organization, composing legal documents, and devising effective solutions tailored to the pertinent issues at hand. On occasion, the legal firm, individual, or their designated representative may also be involved in the examination and compilation of evidence, as well as the coordination of staff hearings.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Engage in comprehensive legal analysis and thorough research across diverse legal subjects.
- Provide counsel on varying legal matters and aid in composing memoranda as well as other legal records.
- Articulate factual information both verbally and in written form.
- Assist the organization in navigating the processes of registration and renewal of licenses with entities like the Charities and Societies Agency and other pertinent governmental bodies.
- Undertake legal research by leveraging an array of resources and selecting relevant materials for analyzing crucial legal insights vital to the operations of DRC.
- Collaborate in evaluating legal materials and any pertinent documents, identifying utmost pressing issues necessitating immediate attention.
- Formulate protocols pertaining to dispute resolution and oversee the enforcement of legal provisions.
- Act as the representative of DRC in legal proceedings, encompassing disputes, before entities such as courts, administrative bodies, judicial organs, Arbitration Tribunals, and Federal Courts across all regions within Ethiopia.
- Provide legal guidance regarding proclamations pertinent to Charities and Societies.
- Extend legal counsel on Employment laws, Tax Laws, and the entire spectrum of the country’s legislative framework.
- The legal advisor is anticipated to serve as the representative of DRC in all Ethiopian regions where DRC is executing its initiatives.
Qualifications
The legal firm must have the qualifications and experience in the following or a combination of the following fields:

- Commercial/Company Law
- International Law
- Procurement
- General Legal Advice
- Not for Profit / Humanitarian Law
- Insurance
- Good communication in English is a must and Amharic language is mandatory.
